The term ‘Perinatal’ refers to the time around a baby’s birth. The Perinatal Support Project is designed to address issues of maternal mental distress and depression that can be experienced by women both during and after a pregnancy.
Our volunteer befrienders will have experience or understanding of mental distress and will be trained to offer emotional support to mothers before and after the birth of their baby. When parents feel supported, cared about and know that someone is available to talk to they will be less stressed, less depressed and more emotionally available for their baby.
